Assistant Chef

We are looking for experienced Chefs with a passion for creating plant-based, seasonal foods. Our Executive Chef will be teaching as well as guiding his teams to create balanced nutritious, delicious dishes that are based on the principles of macrobiotics, 100% vegan and all meals will have gluten-free options.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies.

  • Answer, report and follow the Executive Chef’s instructions.

  • Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables or producing sauces).

  • Due to the team nature of this task, you should be able to work rapidly and independently once menu needs are communicated. In order to create a consistent food product, you should be able to select, clean, trim, and cut vegetables in uniform shapes and sizes. You should have knowledge and experience cooking grains, grain products, vegetables, and beans.

  • Cook menu items as directed by and in cooperation with the Executive Chef.

  • Clean up your station, knives, and cutting boards and take care of prepared food as directed.

  • Comply with nutrition guidelines, and sanitation regulations, and safety standards.

  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and guests.

Requirements

  • Proven chef experience.

  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.

Kitchen Assistant

We are looking for Kitchen Assistants to help with an array of jobs in the kitchen. This position would include washing vegetables, help serving meals, kitchen clean up and whatever assistance that the Executive Chef may need to get the job done.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the Executive Chef’s instructions.

  • Cooperate with all kitchen staff.

  • Vegetable washing and simple food prep.

  • Kitchen cleaning services.

  • Meal service duties.

  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelines.

Requirement

  • Service orientation and excellent organizational skills.

  • Active listening and effective communication competencies.

  • Good physical condition.

  • Kitchen experience and/or food safety training will be considered an asset.

Dishwasher & Kitchen Cleaning Staff

We are looking for a skilled Dishwasher to run dishes and utensils through the equipment and put away all dishes, pots, and pans. The goal is to maintain a clean and safe environment for all guests.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with all serving and kitchen staff.

  • Operate a commercial dishwasher, we will train if needed.

  • Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, and pots and pans as needed.

  • Return all cleaned dishware, pots and pans to proper location after cleaning.

  • Clean dishwasher area at the end of each meal.

  • Mop kitchen floor.

  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations.

Requirements

  • Active listening and effective communication competencies.

  • Good physical condition!

  • Prior experience operating a commercial dishwasher will be considered an asset.

Front End Kitchen Staff

Front end management for food service and clean up in the main dining hall at each meal. Restaurant front end service greatly experience appreciated. Must be able to do heavy lifting.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Fill in the menu board prior to meal service per Executive Chefs instructions.

  • Cooperate with all serving and kitchen staff.

  • Clean and organize the main hall dining area.

  • Keep the front end meal service supplied with food and clear of dirty dish build up.

  • Keep the beverage area supplied and clean.

  • Empty garbage in dining hall at the end of each meal.

  • Sweep the dining hall service area after each meal, mop if needed.

  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations.

  • Good physical condition! A strong back is a must, heavy lifting is involved.

Cooking Class Assistant

We are looking for Cooking Class Assistants to help with an array of jobs in the kitchen to assist our teachers for cooking demonstrations. This includes adult, hands-on and Kids camp cooking classes.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in two cooking classes per day worked.

  • Responsible for class set up, production assistance and clean up.

  • Cooperate and communicate clearly with all kitchen staff and teachers.

  • Vegetable washing and simple food preparatuib.

  • Kitchen cleaning and organizing.

  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelines.

  • Experience preferred but willing to consider someone with great organizational skills and management abililites.

Kids' Camp Assistant

We are looking for Assistants to aide the Kids’ Camp Coordinator in overseeing our dynamic Kids’ program. The goal is to provide a fun and healthy experience for all kids.

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the instructions of the Kids’ Camp Coordinator.

  • Engage kids in the program so that no child is left unsupervised.

  • Ability to lead activities such as crafts and sports.

  • Be comfortable around water and at the beach with children.

  • Make certain that all kids participate in a safe way.

  • Clean and put away all games and equipment at the end of each day.

  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelines.

Requirements include:

  • Proven experience working with kids.

  • Active listening and effective communication competencies.

  • Problem solving and decision making skills.

  • High school diploma; teaching school or other related training will be considered an asset.

Lifeguard

We need a certified Lifeguard to watch over our beach front activities and VEI's camper beach spot. This includes helping with beach equipment set up and storage.

This is a daily part-time position which includes half of each day at the beach in exchange for camp registration fees being completely covered. This is a very important position with major responsibilities and in light of this VEI will cover your full camp registration fees.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain a safe beach front area for our campers.

  • Watch over our campers during lake activities within the buoyed area.

  • Help beginner campers with equipment instructions and first time use.

  • Keep track of VEI's beach toys and store them safely.

  • Report to the Retreat Director after each shift with the day's report of beachfront activities.

Requirements

  • Love being at the beach and in the water, (when needed).

  • Excellent swimming skills.

  • Lifeguard certification required.

  • CPR certification required.

  • A calm and assertive nature if needed to enforce rules.

Hike Assistant

We are looking for an energetic hiker to assist our Hike Guide on adventures in the Pinecrest Lake area. Our seasoned guides will lead the group, you will follow up to make sure no one is left behind.

This is an every-other day position which includes half of each day hiking in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the Hike Guides direction.

  • Watch over campers on the hike by following up the group to make sure no one goes astray.

  • Keeping up with the group and assisting others if needed.

  • Having a great attitude on the hike supporting fellow campers.

Requirements

  • Active listening and effective communication competencies.

  • A great attitude and a strong team spirit.

  • CPR certification.

  • Emergency first aid skills are a bonus for us, but not required.

Retreat Office Assistant

We are looking for office assistants for our Retreat Director to help with simple tasks in the office and around camp. Anything from welcoming campers to simply filing papers, helping a camper find their cabin, grabbing some extra markers for a teacher... you just never know. But we need more than one person to do it, so if you would like to help Jeanne run a great camp this is the job for you!

This is a part-time position, every-other day, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with all other staff.

  • Assist the Retreat Director with general camp operations, set up/break down.

  • Assist the Retreat Director with basic client services.

  • Projector set up/break down for classes and movie nights. Will instruct on its operations.

  • General office and excellent client services skills.

  • Comfortable working in Google Docs and Sheets on a MacBook Pro.

Bulletin Board Assistant

This job is a daily one. We need someone who has great penmanship to create a LARGE version of our daily schedule on a chalk board. And we encourage you to get creative too so artists please think about this opportunity...

This is a part-time daily position, in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with the Retreat Director on a daily basis for posting responsibilities and updates.

  • Create easy to read bulletin board posts (chalk boards) at camp listing the schedules of the day.

  • Get creative and decorate the boards to brighten the space.

  • Make sure updates are added to the schedule if needed.

  • Post and oversee all sign up sheets - - variety show, boating, client services, etc.

Donations Assistant

We need someone with excellent people skills to help us seek donations on behalf of VEI as a non-profit to help support our Summer Retreat.

From kitchen and camping gear, to equipment and food donations we need someone to seek out contributions first by email and online forms, then follow up with phone calls. Direct donations to our common drop point. Collect sponsor logos/links for social media postings via email and forward to the Retreat Director for postings.

This position starts in January and is completed before camp starts. No work hours are required at camp. And for all your help with our donation process we will give you a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Sponsor contact via email and phone followup.

  • Make donation requests per supplied Sponsor list.

  • Organize donation and Sponsor logo collections.

Grant Writer

VEI is seeking someone with excellent writing skills who has experience in writing grant applications. This position is open now. Bathroom & Shower Caretaker

We are looking for a male & female to help us keep our bathrooms and showers fresh daily. The goal is to maintain a clean and safe environment for all guests.

  • Daily bathroom supply check and stocking.

  • Daily cleaning of the two public bathrooms and showers.

  • Woman overseeing female facilities, man in charge of the male facilities.

Heavy Lifter

We need strong bodies for lifting heavy boxes, unloading food and camping gear, moving, unpacking boxes, setting stuff up, help with beach gear, maybe help with tents set up, hang hammocks, possibly some simple cleaning - whatever we need you to do to help with setting up and breaking down camp and some work in between.

This is a part-time position in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Help with the set up and striking of camp.

  • Move tables and furniture when requested by Retreat Director for specific events.

  • Haul trash if needed to dumpsters.

Move In/Move Out - Cleaning Crew

We are looking for those who love to clean, take pride in their work and want to make camp sparkle for arriving campers. With plenty of energy left at the end of the week to help up pack up and clean.

This is a part-time position in exchange for a $500 camp registration discount.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with all other staff.

  • Help in the unpacking, setting up and cleaning needed to get us moved into camp and ready to go.

  • Help with the packing and cleaning need to move us out of camp.

  • One of the first to arrive at camp, one of the last to leave it in better shape than we found it.
